Reply To: Full-dive technology

Hello, I joined this forum with the same thought in mind. Full Dive. I honestly believe the technology already exists but it has to be brought together and fine tuned.

The particular piece of tech on this site seems to use conscious thought as a means of giving commands. I don’t believe this is where full dive is at which is why I originally came here to try and find out what areas of the brain can be “read”.

For a first gen device, stimulating specific areas of the brain would be basically out of the question so any sensory inputs will have to stay the old fashion way.

Oculus Rift for visual
Surround Sound Headset for audio
Microphone to pick up voice
Might even be able to make use of “smellovision” tech

It really just leaves controlling the avatar as you would your own body. I believe this is more easily done by recording activity within the motor cortex while your body carries out specific movements. Once the movement bank is established, it can be used by software paired with real time detection of brain activity from the hardware to create movement within the avatar. There is just one issue which is that there will also be movement with your own body.

Which leaves the last element to finish off a 1st gen full dive. The means to which to keep the body from actually acting out the commands within the motor cortex. This would be established by artificially creating sleep paralysis. Strong enough to keep the body from moving but not strong enough to prevent voluntary facial movements and speaking. This is something that is very much possible already.
